24th Annual Labor Candidates School
For over two decades, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO has recruited, trained, mentored, and campaigned on behalf of rank-and-file union members running for political office. Having achieved 1,084 election victories to date – an incredible 76% success rate – union it’s members now serve New Jersey’s working families in the U.S. House of Representatives, the state senate and assembly, in our counties and municipalities all across our state. Through solidarity, we will continue to build on our federation’s unmatched record of electoral and legislative success.
The cornerstone of our program is the Labor Candidates School. Through this school, we afford union members the opportunity to gain the skills they need to succeed in the political arena. The school features instruction from a number of seasoned election experts who covered subjects such as fundraising, election law, campaign research and planning, message development, public speaking, media relations, voter contact, volunteer recruitment, targeting, digital strategies, and get-out-the-vote. The date and location of the 2020 Labor’ Candidates School are:

Pursuant to the New Jersey State AFL-CIO Labor Candidates Resolution, union members seeking election to public office must secure the support of their local union’s presiding officer who shall then notify the Central Labor Council and the New Jersey State AFL-CIO. All non-incumbent labor candidates are required to graduate from the Labor Candidates School and be reviewed by the Central Labor Council before resources can be earmarked for their election campaign. Each union member seeking election or re-election to public office must Complete the enclosed “labor Candidates Survey” and return it by fax to (609) 989-8734 or by email to cope@njaflcio.org.
